Earlier this week, I updated my playlists on my iPod and also updated our car’s. My current favorites are Christina Perri’s Jar of Hearts, Adele’s Turning Tables, Give In to Me a duet by Garrett Hedlund & Leighton Meester and Glee’s original song Geit It Right. I can put these 4 songs on a loop and will seriously not get tired of it. On the other hand, I’m sure my son is. Everytime these four songs are done playing in the car he’ll ask if we can listen to Train instead. I’m almost positive that aside from the upbeat melody he enjoys singing along to Train’s Save me San Francisco because he can freely say “Hell No!” Ah yes,it’s been awhile since we last played Laurie Berkner, Disney or Kid Bop in the car or at home.

I’m finally out of bed! I am so glad that the stomach flu is over. Anyway, my son and I haven’t had a breakfast date in a while so I thought we’d do just that today. Over breakfast the kid sweet-talked me into getting him a new Beyblade. So we made a quick visit to the toy store.
This assignment is a day late. After breakfast we were supposed to take a little stroll in the neighborhood and visit our local museums, the Alvarado Adobe and the Blume House. I was sure that I will get a nice photograph of a fence or wall along the way or at the museum itself. However, at the toy store, while waiting for my son to make his final pick, I took a few pictures of him and decided this is it. DS 551 is done. Let’s go home now…we’ll go to the museum some other day.

I think I may be coming down with something. Came home from work and all I wanted to do was vegetate. I didn’t even check what today’s daily shoot assignment is. It was almost half past six and still no dinner has been prepared. After dragging my feet for another half an hour, we were out the door heading to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. While waiting for our food, I noticed that the place was packed as usual. Packed with families having dinner. What struck me was that they were mostly families of 4, some were five and then there was mine…. Party of 3. I haven’t had this nasty feeling in a long time. I’ve accepted and have resolved that I have to make the best of what I have and be content. I don’t want to be consumed by this! I’m happy, I truly am. So I was surprised myself when the longing was instantly refreshed. Maybe it will never go away. Maybe I’m just suppressing it, holding it back so I can get by each day. I don’t know. I really don’t. We all have our weaknesses, an Achilles heel. Well, I too have a green-eyed monster. Not for fancy or shiny things. Oh! How I do wish that was the case instead.
Again, maybe I’m just coming down with something. Now, where’s that Nyquil?

Summer is only a few weeks away but in the Philippines it’s almost at its end. Growing up, summer afternoons are never complete without ice candy. Home-made or bought from our next door neighbor or the corner sari-sari store, my favorites are Buko (coconut), Munggo (mung bean), Avocado and Mango. I tried making ice candy here but since I dont have the right plastic bag, I use small Dixie cups. They look like popsicles but they taste like ice candy!
I purchased these popsicles a few weeks ago because it reminded me of ice candy. I thought my son would like it but he doesn’t. And I don’t like it either. I was about to throw them away but I figured maybe it’ll taste better when we have it on a very hot afternoon in the Summer. Anything freezing cold is good in the summer, right? So, for the meantime, these suckers will stay in the freezer.

It was pouring when I left work this afternoon. I was looking for an umbrella in the trunk of my car and found my water bottle instead. I don’t remember how long it’s been there but I do know it’s been a while. I don’t bother looking for it anyway since I’ve got a few stashed away somewhere in the cupboards. I brought the bottle in once I got home to be cleaned. While I was scrubbing the bottle, I was looking outside my kitchen window, searching for that radiating line. Thinking to myself, “where art thou radiating line?” Only after washing the bottle did it dawn on me that the bottle brush would make for an excellent subject for today’s assignment. I was looking far and away and yet there it was right under my nose. But, isn’t that always the case? We tend to look for things outside our field of sight. We just need to learn patience because sometimes what we’re looking for need not be found for it was always there. It was never missing.

It’s the 16th of May! Sweet 16th? More like soggy to me. Had it not been for the rain, I would have gone to Point Isabel for today’s assignment. I envisioned photographing the sunset and the silhouette of strangers taking their evening stroll or perhaps since Point Isabel is also a popular dog park, maybe capture those rambunctious dogs as they run free off their leashes. But, that’s for another day. When the weather is conducive to my vision. So for now, I have my bedroom window as my light source for this charm of finches.

Funny how random this past week’s assignments were. It started with vertical lines then ended with leading lines. Then in between there were more lines. There was the missing horizon line and framing something through a window or door still has some sort of line. Now, let’s talk about the different lights…warm, soft, hard. Oh and don’t forget the something red…again. Hmm, you tell me to show warmth in a photograph? First thing that comes to my head are the colors orange, yellow and red. And for me that’s the color of fire and the sun. What else? Oh, the difference between soft light and hard light. I’m not going to be all technical here becomes I’m no expert. But what I understand is this. Soft light= No Shadows or soft shadows, Hard Light= Sharp Shadows.
